N3 highway quiet after busy weekend
Holidaymakers inland are making their way via the N3 Highway to the coast for the festive season.
JOHANNESBURG - At the end of the first wave of South Africans heading to their holiday destinations, officials say the N3 highway is relatively quiet today after a busy weekend.
Many motorists from inland provinces are making their way to the coast for the festive season.
Transport officials are expected to release the latest death toll for the period on Tuesday.
The N3 toll concession's Andy Visser says, "Today the traffic is flowing beautifully. Traffic volumes are fairly low and it's a fairly quiet day after a pretty heavy weekend."
At the same time, there have been two accidents on national roads.
Four people have been killed following a multi-vehicle collision in Bloemfontein in the Free State.
There were three vehicles involved the accident, which took place on Sunday night.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says, "Another four people sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor. They were all treated on scene and then transported to various hospitals for further care."
Meanwhile in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal, three people have been killed following an accident on the R61.
One person is still in critical condition after the accident.
