Khayelitsha fumes with no funeral screening
Some Khayelitsha residents are disappointed they are unable to watch Madiba’s funeral today.
CAPE TOWN - Many Khayelitsha residents are being turned away at the OR Tambo Hall in the township.
Residents say because several events hosted by the City of Cape Town were held there, they assumed Nelson Mandela's funeral would also be screened there today.
Unfortunately they were wrong.
Instead, community members are being told to go to one of the official public screening venues, which includes Cape Town's Grand Parade.
One man, who has 'Rest in peace Mandela' written on his t-shirt, says his heart is broken now that he is unable to watch the burial.
He says like many people in the area, he does not own a television set to watch Mandela's funeral.
Mandela is being buried in his home village of Qunu today.
He passed away on Thursday 5 December in the comfort of his Houghton home in Johannesburg.
He was 95-years-old.
