CAPE TOWN - Missing Children South Africa says it has had to deal with a huge number of runaway cases this year.

Approximately 670 cases of adult and child disappearances have been reported to the organisation over the past 11 months, most of them in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Of these, 500 people have already been found.

The organisation's Nicky Rheeder says, "We've grouped the categories as to why children go missing and one of them is runaways, which we saw being the largest category with 39 percent of children's cases. This is when a child will run away from home for various reasons. Often it's because they're being abused or there are unwanted circumstances."
