SA flocks to see Mandela movie
SA movie-goers are using 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' as a way of saying goodbye to the icon.
CAPE TOWN - South Africans have flocked to see the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom since his passing on Thursday last week.
The movie features British actor Idris Elba as a young, dapper Nelson Mandela.
The movie opened in South Africa just days before Madiba's death.
Ster-Kinekor CEO Fiaz Mohamed says since last Friday, people have come out in their numbers to watch the movie.
"The movie opened very well. We opened to a record box office over the weekend. Since the passing of Nelson Mandela, we see the momentum continue."
He says people are using the film as a special way to say goodbye to Madiba.
"We've seen a lot of interest in the film, people are really enjoying it and people are finding it, in a way, a celebration of his life."
