CAPE TOWN - A family of four died after a fire swept through the Masiphumelele informal settlement just outside Fish Hoek at the weekend.

More than 200 people have been left homeless after the blaze razed dozens of shacks on Saturday.

The City of Cape Town's Disaster Management official Wilfred Solomons Johannes says about 70 homes were destroyed in the fire.

"The grandmother aged 53, her son and daughter and her grandchild were killed. They could not escape the blaze."
