JOHANNESBURG - Reaction has already begun pouring in from across the globe via social media platforms from musicians, film stars and sports heroes.

South African born celebrity Charlize Theron said she is "saddened to the depth of my soul."

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali says Mandela taught the world forgiveness on a grand scale.

"Mandela was a man whose heart, soul and spirit could not be contained or restrained by racial and economic injustices, metal bars or the burden of hate and revenge."

Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse says his thoughts are with the Mandela family.

"I have been so close to that family I don't even know how to respond and react to all this. I still want to believe that it's not true."

Former Olympic swimmer Ryk Neethling is in London where a large crowd gathering outside parliament square in London near a statue of the struggle icon to mourn his death.

He says despite the cold weather, people are still flocking to the area to pay tribute to Madiba.

He added that young children have even began coming to the site with blankets.
