JOHANNESBURG - City Power says it's working to restore power urgently after several suburbs in the North and West of Johannesburg were left in the dark due to a spate of thunderstorms.

Last week, a hailstorm followed by heavy rain flooded and severely damaged thousands of homes across the province.

Areas left without electricity include North Riding, Beyers Naudé, Houtkoppen and Roodepoort.

The power utility's Sol Masolo says, "We will make sure that people are who currently working will be there until power in the affected areas is restored. We'll keep the teams working there 24/7 until the power has been restored."
