Rand hits four-and-a-half year low

The rand has been weakening steadily over the last week.

The rand hit a four-and-a-half year low today.

CAPE TOWN - The rand has hit a four-and-a-half year low today.

It dropped to R10.53 to the dollar this morning - its weakest point since March 2009.

The rand has been weakening steadily over the last week.

Offshore investors appear to have dumped local debt and shares this morning and analysts expect the currency to weaken further on Friday in response to the release of fresh US employment data.
