JOHANNESBURG - The North Gauteng High Court has sentenced Christiaan Oldewage to 27 years in prison for the murder and abuse of his three- week- old stepson baby Stiaan.

The infant died in hospital with several fractured ribs and a shattered skull in 2011.

Oldewage was on Wednesday convicted on charges of murder and child abuse.

Judge Bert Bam passed the 27-year sentence, emphasising how shocked he was by the way baby Stiaan died.

The judge says it's clear the three-week-old infant was weak and defenceless and did nothing to deserve the kind of pain inflicted on him.

Oldewage and his wife Juanita Fourie were accused of killing Stiaan but Fourie committed suicide in August.

Bam says it was clear Oldewage had only one intention and that was to murder his stepson.

The convicted baby killer showed no emotion as the judge passed his sentence.

Bam says Oldewage showed no remorse throughout the trial.
