JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela wants axed Communications Minister Dina Pule to apologise to Parliament for her lies.

Pule willfully misled Parliament by denying her romantic relationship with Phosane Mngqibisa, who allegedly made millions from sponsorship deals through the department.

The protector also found Pule guilty of improper behaviour and maladministration after she breached the code of conduct for Members of Parliament (MPs).

Madonsela says she cannot understand why the former minister owned up so late.

She spoke frankly calling Pule a liar who worked hard to pass the buck to her own employees in the hope of covering up her wrongdoings.

The public protector wants Pule to apologise to Parliament and pay back all the money she used from the Communications Department to pay her boyfriend.

So far, R89,000 has been returned.

After her admission, Pule was publicly reprimanded in Parliament, with National Assembly Speaker Max Sisulu handing down the rebuke.

Pule was sacked by President Jacob Zuma during a Cabinet reshuffle in July.
