Petersen is in talks with three franchises to secure a loan move for the 2014 Super Rugby season.

JOHANNESBURG - One of the brightest prospects in South African rugby, the Eastern Province (EP) wing Sergeal Petersen, has held discussions with three Super Rugby franchises with a view to representing them in 2014, his agent told EWN Sport .

The 19-year-old made a sensational start to his Super Rugby career with the Southern Kings earlier this year, being named man of the match on debut after scoring twice against the Western Force.

EP will allow the player to go on-loan for the Super Rugby campaign should he come to an agreement with one of the franchise teams.

He is contracted to EP until 2015, but the union recently lost their Super Rugby status for 2014 having been relegated at the hands of the Lions.

His agent Wallis Roux told EWN Sport that they're considering their options at the moment.

"We would like to get involved with a franchise that really shows an interest in him, and at this moment, we are grateful that three of the franchises have shown a real interest. We have every expectation at some or other stage we'll become involved in one of those three."

With the various franchises having already started their pre-season training, Roux hopes something can be agreed upon sooner rather than later.

"From my experience I know that it's crucial for a coach to include a player like Sergeal in his pre-season preparations. We are a bit concerned that he hasn't been included yet in one of those training squads. We are hopeful that he'll be included in one of those come January or February."

Roux says it's imperative for Petersen to play Super Rugby in 2014 after the impact he made this year.

"He certainly has a desire to play at the highest level. We are very comfortable with the situation that it may happen in an environment that he can still remain loyal to Eastern Province who was the first province to really show faith in him and who continues to show faith in him. So we're very comfortable with the situation."

Petersen has been linked to the Cheetahs, Stormers and the Sharks.
