CAPE TOWN - The Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) says it is shocked by the death of six-year-old Hope van der Merwe.

The little girl was shot and killed after being caught in crossfire involving gangs at the weekend.

A man has since been arrested for the incident.

The CPF's Abie Isaacs says, "To the perpetrator or whoever pulled the trigger, I hope you face the full might of the law."

A five-year-old boy and an 18-year-old male were also wounded during the same shootout.

It is believed the gunman may have been targeting the teenager.

Meanwhile, two men were shot and killed in an apparent drive by-shooting, also in Mitchells Plain, on Monday.

The incident, which took place in Tafelsig, is thought to be gang-related, but police are unable to confirm this.

According to the police's Andre Traut, "The circumstances surrounding the deaths of two men are being investigated. Two men aged 40 and 16 were shot and killed. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. The motive is unknown."
