Girl (6) killed in CT gang crossfire
Police are searching for suspects after a six-year-old girl was shot and killed in a gang fight.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police have confirmed a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting which claimed the life of a six-year-old Mitchells Plain girl.
Hope van der Merwe was gunned down when she was caught in crossfire on Monday.
The police's Andre Traut says, "The circumstances surrounding the shooting are being investigated and the motive is yet to be established. The suspect will make a court appearance once he has been charged."
A five-year-old boy and another person were also wounded during the shootout.
The Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF)'s Abie Isaacs says, "We condemn this in the strongest terms. People are acting barbarically by shooting innocent children. We are asking law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned."
Meanwhile, two people may have been killed following another shooting in Mitchells Plain.
The incident, which is yet to be confirmed, occurred around midnight.
