Dhoni expects warm SA reception
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni does not expect any backlash from SA fans.
JOHANNESBURG - Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni does not expect any backlash from South African fans during their shortened tour of the country.
Following an initial announcement of three ODIs and seven Test series between the countries, the tour has now been reduced to three ODIs and two Tests.
Dhoni believes that fans will still come out to support their team.
"Whenever we come here, we always get a fantastic reception. I don't think that will really change."
Dhoni also added the side is not focusing on the controversy surrounding the shortened fixture schedule and matters surrounding the administrators.
"I don't pay much attention on how many games we are playing because we have a busy schedule. It's just a schedule that we need to respect. I think we just need to focus on two test matches and three ODIs and then move on to the next series."
Dhoni admits the side did not pay attention to the series between the Proteas and Pakistan ahead of this series.
India was in the midst of Sachin Tendulkar's final game and Dhoni says they were not following their opponent's recent games.
"We were busy playing an emotional Test series and after that the ODIs. We hardly had time to focus on the South Africa/Pakistan series, so I won't be in a position to comment on the teams performances."
The first ODI takes place on Friday at Wanderers Stadium.
