Cape fire season launched
The WC government is expected to spend in the region of R8 million on wildfires this season.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape government is expected to spend in the region of R8 million this summer to combat the threat of wildfires.
Environmental Affairs MEC Anton Bredell on Monday launched the Western Cape fire season campaign in conjunction with the Working on Fire programme in Stellenbosch.
Authorities appear more than prepared and equipped to deal with yet another fiery summer in the Cape.
As part of the launch, airplane water bombers demonstrated their capabilities by mimicking the work done when putting out fires.
More than a dozen planes and about 700 crew members will be on duty this season, which runs from December until May.
