Zuma: Makwetu, SA's new Auditor General

Makwetu’s appointment takes effect on Sunday 1 December.

JOHANNESBURG - The Presidency has appointed a new Auditor General (AG) for the next seven years.

Thembekile Kimi Makwetu, who is a chartered accountant by profession, has served as Deputy Auditor General for six years and his appointment takes effect on Sunday 1 December.

Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj says President Jacob Zuma has wished Makwetu well for his tenure.

"President Zuma has congratulated the new Auditor General and wishes him well in his new role. The appointment of the new Auditor General is for a period of seven years.

"The president also thanked the previous Auditor General Mr Terence Nombembe for his efficient and effective service over the past few years."
