CAPE TOWN - The Springbok and Stormers lock Eben Etzebeth will miss a large part of the 2014 Super Rugby campaign as he will undergo an ankle operation on Monday.

Etzebeth, who is nominated for the International Rugby Board player of the year, left the field early in the Boks' final game of the season against France with the injury.

He tweeted on Thursday, "Just for those who would like to know, going for operation on Monday. +-6 months out of action."

The Stormers start their Super Rugby campaign on 22 February and at the moment the 22-year old star lock is only expected back on the park at the end of May next year.
