'Sanral fabricating support for e-tolls'
Outa has accused Sanral of fabricating support for e-tolling in a bid to drive up e-tag sales.
JOHANNESBURG - The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) has accused the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) of fabricating support for e-tolling in a bid to drive up e-tag sales.
Sanral has come under fire for praising the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) for endorsing the multibillion rand project.
But Sacci has now clarified that it remains opposed to e-tolling and only encouraged its members not to break the law.
Outa's Wayne Duvenage says Sanral is turning up the volume in its bid to win the hearts and minds of South Africans.
"Sanral is really fabricating information. We've caught them lying about e-tags in the past. It's absolute nonsense."
Sanral claims there has been an increase in the number of motorists buying e-tags, but says sales figures will only be available at the end of this week.
E-tolling is due to launch on Tuesday next week.
