Taxi driver shot dead in CT

A passenger was also wounded in Tuesday afternoon’s shooting in Bellville.

CAPE TOWN - A taxi driver has been killed following a shooting on the corner of Durban Road and Old Oak Road in Bellville, Cape Town police confirmed on Tuesday.

A passenger was also wounded in the Tuesday afternoon's incident.

Police spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana says, "Two men and a woman were waiting for a taxi to pick them up. When the taxi arrived, they opened the door and started shooting at the driver and passenger who was [sitting] on the front seat."

Kinana said the suspects fled on foot.

Officials are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

The incident comes just days after four taxi associations reached an agreement to end a deadly taxi war over routes in several Western Cape suburbs.

Six people lost their lives as a result of the violence.
