Chiefs defender charged
Morgan Gould is accused of punching Bidvest Wits player Getaneh Kebede earlier this month.
JOHANNESBURG - The PSL have confirmed that they have charged Kazier Chiefs defender Morgan Gould with assaulting an opposing player following the PSL fixture against Bidvest Wits earlier this month.
The charge relates to an incident where Gould punched Wits's Getaneh Kebede in the face.
Responding to the PSL charge, Chiefs's Vina Maphosa says they are hopeful the PSL would give the player a lenient sentence.
"As always we've said that this conduct has not been welcomed at Kaizer Chiefs. We will be going out to hear what PSL is saying and hopefully they would give us a lenient sentence. We have shown remorse and Morgan Gould has apologised already."
Chiefs are also conducting their own internal investigation and Maphosa confirmed that the matter was still ongoing.
"We haven't concluded anything as the process is still on, and it's at advanced stage. As soon as we are finished, we will let the public know the outcome."
Gould's cases will be heard before the PSL disciplinary committee on Tuesday.
