CT beefs up firefighting capacity
The city has intensified its firefighting capacity for the dry summer season.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says it's intensified its firefighting capacity for the dry season.
At least 120 seasonal firefighters have been brought in, along with an additional 75 reservists.
Two new helicopters and a spotter airplane will also assist in firefighting efforts.
The city's JP Smith says they are doing their best to minimise the risk of blazes.
"The city's doing both preventative and reactive stuff. We've also, for the first time, brought on board our new 4 X 4 foam tankers, which help put out fires much faster. At this time of year vegetation fires become a huge problem."
