Stars advance to Telkom Knockout final
Platinum Stars have booked their place in the Telkom Knockout final by beating Kaizer Chiefs.
JOHANNESBURG - Platinum Stars have beaten Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the FNB Stadium to advance to the final of the Telkom Knockout.
A goal by Thabiso Mbhata in the second half was enough to see the team from Rustenburg secure their second consecutive cup final appearance.
Coach Allan Freese is delighted to see his team advance to the final especially as the team beat the much fancied Chiefs.
"I think the game plan worked for Platinum Stars and I'm happy that it worked. Players executed the plan well and I'm happy with that."
Stars will take on Orlando Pirates in the final of the competition on 7 December at the Mbombela Stadium.
The teams met in the final of the MTN 8 which Stars won.
Freese has put the recent success of the side down to the team's experience.
"You have mature players who know the game and they help the youngsters. Players also discipline each other if somebody is getting out of hand, but the best part is the spiritual being that the players have."
Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter believes it was his team's inability to finish chances cost them the game.
"I thought the first 45 minutes was not bad. It was quite even. We had some very good situations but the final finish was just not good enough. If we had built on our first half we would have taken the game."
