SAPS: Krejcir family whereabouts unknown
There are suggestions that his wife and children left the country on Wednesday.
JOHANNESBURG - Police say they don't know the whereabouts of arrested Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir's family as they are not suspects.
There are some suggestions that his wife and children left the country on Wednesday.
Krejcir is expected to appear in court on Monday alongside one of his associates on charges of attempted murder and assault.
Krejcir has been in the country for six years and was previously arrested on an Interpol red notice for using a fake passport.
He continues to fight off official attempts to extradite him back to the Czech Republic where he is accused of a string of crimes.
National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega says, "We are cooperating with Interpol and and it's one of the processes that's in court so the SAPS is fully cooperating with Interpol."
Meanwhile, police have confirmed that there are multiple investigations taking place following Krejcir's arrest on Friday night.
Police are expected to make more arrests in connection with an assault and kidnapping case on the East Rand in June in which Krejcir is implicated.
One of Krejcir's associates has also been arrested but police are refusing to reveal his identity.
National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega says they believe that Krejcir has a case to answer to after obtaining a warrant of arrest earlier this week.
She says authorities will not reveal in public where he's being detained as police fear for the Czech fugitive's safety.
"We're hoping to arrest more suspects as the investigations unfold."
Phiyega says investigations are now at a sensitive stage.
