CAPE TOWN - The lawyer of the man convicted of the rape and murder on Bredasdorp teenager Anene Booysen says his client's relatives want the court to review his judgment.

Johannes Kana was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison earlier this month.

He sexually assaulted, mutilated and left the 17-year-old for dead at a construction site in February.

Kana's lawyer says his client's family chose to appeal his judgment as they still believe he is innocent.

Pieter du Toit say they are unhappy with the fact he was found guilty of both Booysen's rape and murder, but he says at this stage he cannot giveaway too much detail.

"I don't want to go into detail about specific points at this stage until the application has been drafted and served on the court."

A leave of appeal application is expected to be handed over in the next few days.

The matter will then most likely only be on the court roll in 2014.
