Makhado crash: 11 dead, 47 injured
Authorities are busy verifying the identities of the 11 people killed in the crash.
JOHANNESBURG - Authorities are now trying to verify the identities of the 11 people who were killed in this morning's bus accident in Limpopo on the N1 North.
At least 47 other people were injured, six of them critically, during the crash near Makhado.
It's believed the bus driver was trying to overtake another bus when he collided head-on with an oncoming sedan.
The police's Hangwani Mulaudzi says five people from the sedan and six passengers from the bus died, including both drivers.
He says a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
The Limpopo Transport Department's Jimmy Machaka says it's unclear what caused the accident.
He says the bus was on its way to Zimbabwe.
"We are now in the process of trying to identify the injured and the deceased so that we can determine what appropriate action should be taken further."
The accident comes after 30 people were killed earlier this month in a four-vehicle pile-up.
Two trucks, a bus and a bakkie crashed into each other near Kwaggafontein on Moloto Road, leaving another 29 people injured.
