Exams taking their toll on matric pupils
SADAG has noticed a spike in calls to its helpline from matric pupils.
CAPE TOWN - The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) say many grade 12 pupils are taking strain.
The matric exam period has entered its fourth week, with one more week to go.
SADAG says it has noticed a spike in pupils, especially matrics, calling its helpline.
A grade 10 Philippi pupil took his own life at the weekend and his family believe he was under immense stress because of exams.
The organisation's Cassie Chambers says emotional support is crucial during this time.
"Help them to have the right environment for studying, talk to your teen. Find out what's stressing them out, what their most difficult subject is, be there emotionally and offer them support that no matter what happens, you're still going to be there for them."
