JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane Emergency Services has confirmed a reported explosion in Waltloo in Pretoria east was a planned blast at a decommissioned silo in the area.

Eyewitness News received numerous calls from concerned residents after the blast on Sunday morning.

Some Twitter users were also shocked by the apparently unannounced demolition.

But Emergency Service's Johan Pieterse says it's nothing to worry about.

"It was a controlled implosion of old silos. Everything went hunky dory."
