Bakkies must prove himself - Meyer

Heyneke Meyer says Bakkies Botha needs to show he's good enough for the Green & Gold.

Heyneke Meyer says the selection of Bakkies Botha for the fixture against Scotland will give him a chance to see if the player is still good enough to play for his country.

JOHANNESBURG - Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer says the selection of Bakkies Botha for the fixture against Scotland on Sunday will give him a chance to see if Botha is still good enough to play for his country.

Botha has been recalled for his first match since the 2011 World Cup.

Meyer admits that in the week leading up to the test he has been impressed by Botha's attitude.

"He's been really good in training and I am very impressed. He is probably in the best condition that I have seen him in. He is really mobile again and I was impressed with how he took balls in the line-outs.

"We will have a discussion again after the game. He wants to play for his country going forward, but the guys need to show that they are still good enough to play for South Africa."

Botha replaces Eben Etzebeth in the starting line-up, with Etzebeth moving to the bench.

Meyer has also admitted that he hopes to convert Etzebeth into a number five lock in the future.

The match kicks off at 5pm on Sunday.
