CAPE TOWN - Beaches along the False Bay coast will remain closed after a whale carcass washed up on Danger Beach earlier this week.

The carcass attracted sharks to the False Bay shoreline.

The Shark Spotters group's Sarah Titley says while the carcass has been removed, whale oil and blood still remain in the water.

"Around mid-morning or early lunchtime we'll make a decision as to whether the beaches will reopen."

Sharks have been spotted at Muizenberg, St James and Fish Hoek beaches.
