Three depts receive clean audits
The auditor general says the departments of education, health and public works did badly.
CAPE TOWN - Red lights are flashing over the financial management of the departments of education, health and public works countrywide, Auditor General Terence Nombembe said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a briefing in Parliament on Wednesday, he presented the
audit outcomes for the past financial year for national and provincial
departments, and state entities.
Only three out of 35 departments received clean audits.
Nombembe said this was a slight overall improvement.
He did however raise concerns about particular departments.
"For us, the biggest red lights are in education, health and public works right across the country."
Combined, those departments contribute to almost 80 percent of total
spending and are at the frontline of delivering services to citizens.
Nombembe ends his term of office at the end of November.
