Mitchells Plain Hospital officially opens
The highly anticipated new Mitchells Plain Hospital officially opened its doors on Tuesday.
CAPE TOWN - Mitchells Plain residents say they are unsure whether they will be able to use a new district hospital in the area.
The highly anticipated Mitchells Plain Hospital officially opened its doors on Tuesday.
The 230-bed hospital has taken four years to complete.
The new facility has been admitting patients for a few months already.
However, a number of Lentegeur residents, who live directly opposite the facility, say security guards have turned away family members who need urgent medical treatment.
They add it is not always easy to find transport to get down to the old hospital in the town centre.
Western Cape health officials say the new facility is a district hospital based on referrals from other facilities.
