Explosion near Krejcir’s shop

Emergency officials say two people have been killed and three others are in a critical condition.

BEDFORDVIEW - There has been an explosion outside controversial Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir's Moneypoint shop in Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg, late on Tuesday.

Emergency officials say two people have been killed and three others are in a critical condition.

Two people suffered minor injuries.

The blast occurred at around 5:30pm directly opposite the Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Sniffer dogs and police are checking the building for secondary devices.

It's believed Krejcir was not at the shop at the time of the explosion.

There is rubble and debris strewn across the area.

A witness at the scene describes the experience as terrifying.

"I heard an explosion and a bit of the debris from the explosion hit my car as I was driving in. I then did a u-turn and drove back out to see what was going on. When I went past the offices, you could see there had been an explosion. A couple of windows had been blown out."

Earlier this year, Krejcir survived a bizarre attempt on his life when remote controlled shotguns opened fire on him from behind a number plate of a parked car outside the same shop.

He described the experience as being like something out of a James Bond film.

Several of Krejcir's associates have been gunned down in recent weeks.

In the latest incident, Lebanese national Sam Issa was killed in Bedfonrdview.

Krejcir has denied ever being close to Issa or having any links to the killing.

The Czech national has been named a suspect in a number of high-profile murders but has never been charged.

He is also fighting to avoid extradition to his home country where he has been charged in absentia on a number of charges.
