CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato at the weekend said he will ask Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa for clarity on the investigation into Provincial Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer this week.

Lamoer is being investigated by the Hawks over an alleged corrupt relationship with a Cape Town businessman.

National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega is also currently being investigated for allegedly tipping Lamoer off about the probe.

MEC Plato said it's critical the issue be finalised soon.

"I will ask for some clarity and for some answers from the National Minister as to how he sees the situation."

Two weeks ago, Eyewitness News learnt Lamoer had known about the investigation into his actions since July last year.

The businessman he supposedly has a corrupt relationship with, whose identity is known to Eyewitness News , has donated money to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the past.

Lamoer has refused to speak about the allegations.
