CAPE TOWN - ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says focus should not be placed on two of Cape Town's so-called poo ringleaders, but also service delivery issues on the ground.

Andile Lili and controversial ANC City Councillor Loyiso Nkohla have been temporarily suspended from the party.

The pair has been accused of leading October's violent housing march in the CBD.

Lili and Nkohla's final party disciplinary hearings are set to be held next weekend.

Mantashe says there is a real problem with delivery of housing and sanitation in Cape Town.

"There are areas where services are really bad and it needs attention rather than taking Loyiso Nkohla or Lili as the issues. The issues should be what should we do with the level of service delivery in those areas."

Mantashe says everyone should join hands to deliver services.

Meanwhile, the ANC has distanced itself from the violent housing protest at the city centre.

The housing protest became violent when some residents started looting stalls.

Some business owners lost all their stock.

No arrests were made.

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has condemned the protests, calling them politically motivated.
