CAPE TOWN - The ANC in the Western Cape has called for the Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor facing fraud charges to be fired.

Councillor Michael Toko was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly drawing an old-age pension despite reportedly earning around R30,000 a month.

Cape Council Speaker Dirk Smit told Eyewitness News he was investigating the allegations.

But ANC leader in the Western Cape Marius Fransman says the DA must act immediately.

"The DA must act immediately. We believe that this person must be sacked from his position."
