JOHANNESBURG - The City of Ekurhuleni will be paying for the funeral of the 10-year-old boy found burnt and possibly raped in the Ramaphosa informal settlement on the East Rand.

Siphamandla Madikane went missing on Sunday after he went to buy paraffin for his mother.

The Ekurhuleni Mayor's spokesperson Zweli Dlamini says the city will also pay for the reception of mourners in the Eastern Cape, where Madikane will be buried.

"For us it's not about the money, it's about making sure that Siphamandla is given a decent burial and that the family gets enough support."

Police investigations continue.

Madikane's murder is the latest in a string of attacks on children across the country in recent months.

In October, the bodies of Diepsloot cousins Zandile and Yonalisa Mali were found dumped inside a communal toilet.

A day later, two children were found dead in an abandoned building in Katlehong.
