Soweto Gospel Choir signs international deal
The group has signed a deal with Universal Music in the US.
JOHANNESBURG - The Soweto Gospel Choir has signed a deal with Universal Music's prestigious Classics label in the United States.
The deal will see the group's current album "Divine Decade" distributed throughout North America in conjunction with their spring 2014 US tour.
The album celebrates the group's 10th anniversary and features collaborations with U2, Zahara, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Beverly Bryer, the choir's executive producer and director said it's unique for a South African artist to get signed to a major record label.
"It's a real honour and achievement and hopefully will also pave the way for other artists to be able to achieve the same accolade."
She added this will help the group reach a much wider audience.
"Although they are already well known around the world and in America, this will help them reach a much wider audience and probably give them more opportunities. It is definitely a feather in their cap."
The choir's US tour kicks off in Florida on 4 February 2014.
