Family want answers after child’s death
Siphamandla Madikane's half burnt and naked body was discovered after he was reported missing.
JOHANNESBURG - The family of a 10-year-old boy who was found murdered in the Ramaphosa informal settlement earlier this week said they had high hopes for him.
Siphamandla Madikane's half burnt and naked body was found in the veld in Reiger Park on Gauteng's East Rand on Monday after he was reported missing the previous day.
Madikane was last seen playing with his friends on Sunday night at around 7pm.
A missing person's case was opened on Monday at the Reiger Park Police Station and police together with community members immediately started searching for the boy.
Police say his body was found in the bushes by a passerby in the township, with socks stuffed in his mouth.
A used condom was found at the scene, suggesting he may have been raped.
The passerby, who had been walking on a pathway in the bush, immediately alerted police and the boy was identified.
Madikane's uncle Sibabalo says the family is in shock and want the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
"I am very hurt by what has happened to my nephew. He was such a bright boy and I was hoping he could make a difference in the family."
A case of rape and murder has been registered at the Reiger Park Police Station for investigation.
Police say no arrests have been made as yet.
