ANC leader to appeal forfeiture order
Northern Cape ANC leader faces charges of racketeering and fraud related to price inflation.
CAPE TOWN - Northern Cape ANC leader John Block will today bring an application for leave to appeal a forfeiture order seizing his assets.
Block's property worth more than R5 million was forfeited to the state along with 25 ordinary shares from the Trifecta Resources and Exploration.
Block faces charges of racketeering and fraud related to allegations that the Northern Cape government purchased water purification equipment at inflated prices in 2005 and 2006.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s Mashudu Malabi says, "The property was worth over R5 million and was already forfeited to the State on 11 September 2013."
