ANC not satisfied with Nkandla report
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says Thuli Madonsela’s comments could have serious consequences.
JOHANNESBURG - ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says Public Protector Thuli Madonsela played with the emotions of the public by giving 'confusing' statements on the Nkandla report.
"Our view is there's an element of political gimmicking involved in the way she handled the report. She issued statements which create confusion and problems. In the first statement she said she completed the report, but didn't know who to give it to.
"The law says she should have given it to President Jacob Zuma so in my view she's already saying Zuma is guilty."
Mantashe added Madonsela's comments could have serious consequences.
"In her second statement she said people would be disappointed by the report. That statement tricks society instead of dealing with the issue."
Madonsela released the provisional report on the upgrade to Zuma's Nkandla homestead to limited parties on Friday.
Nkandla has been at the centre of controversy after it emerged that the Department of Public Works had approved upgrades to the homestead costing R206 million.
