Nine-month-old baby raped
Two suspects have appeared in the Franschhoek Magistrate’s Court in connection with the crime.
CAPE TOWN - Two suspects have appeared in the Franschhoek Magistrate's Court in connection with the rape of a nine-month-old baby, Western Cape police confirmed on Monday.
Both men were arrested after the infant's mother reported the incident to police last Thursday.
The baby has since gone for a medical examination, which confirmed she was sexually assaulted.
The police's Fredrick van Wyk says, "When the daycare mother wanted to change the baby, she discovered stains on the nappy."
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the rape of a two-year-old child in George, Southern Cape police said on Monday.
The incident is believed to have occurred in Thembalethu two weeks ago.
The police's Bernadine Steyn said, "The victim was taken to a doctor for a medical examination. The victim had burn wounds on her private parts and penetration possibly occurred."
In October, two small cousins were kidnapped and raped in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg.
Their bodies were later found dumped in a communal toilet cubicle in the area.
Five men were initially arrested for the crime.
Four people were released after the state failed to find any DNA evidence linking them to the crime.
