CAPE TOWN - The Labour Department has urged all domestic workers to get registered.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant launched a registration drive in Khayelitsha on Sunday to get domestic workers registered so that they can secure benefits.

The department's Musa Zondi says the aim is to ensure workers in the sector are protected.

"They take care of our children and they take care of our homes. The rights go both ways; it's a right and a responsibility for those who employ them as well as them understanding what they are and are not entitled to."
