JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund has told Eyewitness News that Orlando Pirates fans must not lose hope after failing to beat Al Ahly last night.

The two teams met in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, which ended in a one-all draw.

Orlando Stadium was sold out as thousands of fans turned up hoping to watch Pirates overcome the first hurdle of their CAF Champions League final against the Egyptian side.

Instead to the home crowds despair, it was the Al Ahly who went ahead early, scoring an important away goal.

The Buccaneers fans had to wait until injury time to watch defender Thabo Matlaba score a stunning equaliser, giving Pirates something to play with in Cairo.

Igesund says it was never going to be an easy task for Pirates.

"You have to understand that Al Ahly are a very experienced team in the CAF Champions league campaign. They have won the title numerous times. Unfortunately Pirates made a mistake and Aboutrika scored from a free kick from that mistake."

Igesund says he's happy that De Sa is getting all the support he needs, from the technical team and the chairman.

"He's got a good support base around him and I Know the chairman is very helpful as well. I think it's a very difficult job because expectations are very high but I'm very happy for him."

The second leg takes place next Sunday in Egypt with victory or a high draw needed for pirates to lift the trophy.
