Oliphant puts spotlight on domestic workers
The minister says domestic workers will be catered for when sectoral determination is reviewed next year.
CAPE TOWN -Minister of Labour Mildred Oliphant says domestic workers will be catered for when sectoral determination is reviewed next year.
This forms part of new legislation dealing with the protection of workers.
Oliphant held a Domestic Workers Public Participation Programme in Khayelitsha yesterday as part of the Labour Imbizo for domestic workers.
There are 700,000 registered domestic workers in South Africa.
The Labour Ministry's Musa Zondi said the main thing is to interact with domestic workers so they know what their rights are.
"If there are things they aren't happy about, we want to be able to deal with them immediately."
