'Pirates have restored credibility to SA football'
Zeca Marques says Pirates' CAF Champions League performance can only help SA football.
JOHANNESBURG - Moroka Swallows head coach Zeca Marques says he believes Orlando Pirates' Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League performance has restored some credibility to South African football.
The Buccaneers will take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium tonight in the first leg of the continental final.
Pirates will be seeking to win the competition for the second time following their initial win in 1995.
Al Ahly are the defending champions in the competition and will be looking to add to their record seven titles.
Marques says Pirates' performance can only help South African football.
"I think it gives us credibility which is so important in raising the standard of our game and to also get respect on the African continent. I know for a fact people don't respect South African football and I think for a change, this will start having a positive impact going forward."
