Stalemate between Pirates and Al Ahly
Orlando Pirates have drawn 1-1 in the first leg CAF Champions league final.
JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates have drawn 1-1 in the first leg CAF Champions league final against Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium.
Mohamed Abou Trika opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the game from a free kick.
He hit a shot into the corner of Senzo Meyiwa's goal.
Pirates' equalizer came courtesy of Thabo Matlaba who scored in the dying seconds of the second half.
The capacity crowd at Orlando was treated to entertaining football as their team dominated possession but was reduced to taking long range shots for much of the first half.
Al Ahly played counter attack football for much of the game and looked better upfront.
The second half was a tame affair in comparison to the beginning of the first.
The biggest moment until the 90 minutes was the disallowed goal for Al Ahly.
It was in the 90th minute were some inter play by the Pirates players resulted in Matlaba taking a long rage grass cutter from outside the box into the bottom left corner of Ahly keeper's goal.
The two sides will now clash in the second leg in Cairo on 10 November to determine the winner of the CAF Champions League.
