Kana to be sentenced today
Johannes Kana will be sentenced after being found guilty of Anene Booysen’s rape and murder.
CAPE TOWN - The man convicted for Anene Booysen's rape and murder will be sentenced in the Swellendam Circuit Court today.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) wants double life sentences for Johannes Kana.
The 22-year-old raped, mutilated and left the 17-year-old teenager for dead in February this year.
Some Bredasdorp residents say they are confident he will get the harshest possible punishment.
Bredasdorp community leader Michael Olivier says all they want is a fair ruling by Judge Patricia Goliath.
Olivier believes Anene died a horrible and painful death.
"Justice has been served. As the community and as leaders we are thankful for the way the case has been handled."
Other residents agree, saying Kana's future now lies in the hands of the court.
