CAPE TOWN - Nu Metro is planning to sell alcohol at its V&A Waterfront cinema from next week Thursday.

Recently, the company began selling liquor at its Pavilion cinema in Durban, and it said the response has been positive.

It said the bar will have a responsible sale of alcohol to ensure that there are no disruptions.

Nu Metro General Manager Luke Roberts told 567Cape Talk that the concept has worked abroad and they are hoping to get the same results.

"We are launching a cinema concept where we have an exclusive lounge and bar. The bar itself is actually isolated from the rest of the cinema. You can only enter the actual cinema with a ticket."

Roberts said the initiative is aimed at a more matured and responsible audience.

"We realize that Nu Metro is a family environment and we definitely want to keep it that way. We are also going to be serving mini burgers and desserts."
