SA's big hits on Twitter - 30 October
EWN's Dennis Georgiannis takes a look at today’s trending topics on Twitter.
JOHANNESBURG - Protests in the Cape Town CBD following a march to the Provincial Legislature resulted in looting and damage to some stores, hawker stalls and cars in the area. Information about the protest is limited and most coverage was of posted pictures taken on St George's Mall. Eyewitness News has comprehensive coverage. http://www.ewn.co.za/
For the rest it was a relatively slow day on Twitter so I will mention some items from YouTube and Facebook.
Facebook is difficult to track trends generally as it is a closed community. If you have noticed that some of your friends have changed their profile pictures to a giraffe, a riddle could be the reason why. Someone began posting this riddle to friends in the last few days, "3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors, It's your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?". You are asked to send the answer to the person that sent it to you, if you get the answer correct your profile picture remains, but if you get it wrong you are asked to change it to one of a giraffe for three days.
It is not just a riddle it is also a trick question so you are likely to get the answer wrong. Even so, the chance to prank friends seems to be the principal reason it has continued to spread. I won't spoil it for anyone, although the answer is on one of the Facebook pages created to help promote it. https://www.facebook.com/GiraffeRiddles
YouTube viewers with good EQ might want to see if they can tell if a video of a young child is a response to her mother singing a sad song. If true then the child is remarkably sensitive. It is not crying, but tears well up in her eyes and she looks really sad. http://youtu.be/nIsCs9_-LP8
An emotional ride of a different kind for EWN's Stephen Grootes as Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj interviewed him about the launch of his new book SA Politics UnSpun. Maharaj pulled no punches in challenging Grootes on elements of his analysis although he did acknowledge that it was a great book. If you are a fan of politics you will enjoy these two sparring about issues like political compromise during the transition and the nature of our democracy and the use of the courts to decide parliamentary matters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX-L_NL1ns4
Lastly it was a long long time ago in a studio far far away that Star Wars IV was filmed, the bloopers from the movie were released as part of a promotion of a book on the making of Star Wars. http://youtu.be/OgLl0_mqLtc
