Underdogs Pirates ready for Al Ahly
Orlando Pirates will take on the Egyptian side Al Ahly in the first leg of CAF Championship League.
JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa on Tuesday said his side go into Saturday's first leg CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly as the underdogs.
The Buccaneers will take on the reigning champions at the Orlando Stadium.
Having won eight continental titles, de Sa is aware that his team has a lot of work ahead of them.
"I honestly believe that they are favourites. When you look at the way they have been and what they have done in this competition, we really need to be at our best. They are a special side, there is no doubt about it but we also have our strengths. We need to go out there and do the best we can."
The team's experience in Africa has helped restore local football's image following the failings of the national side, Bafana Bafana.
Pirates winger Daine Klate said, "I think it doesn't put extra pressure on us. Not many people would have given us a chance if you go few months back. We have exceeded the expectations of the country, so we going to use that to our advantage, with the whole country behind us. We know what's at stake and hopefully, we going to give it our best and win on Saturday."
Goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has expressed his pride at being the number one ahead of Saturday's game.
He has been in tremendous form in the competition this year, having saved a penalty during the group stage 3-0 victory over Al Ahly.
"It's a great feeling for me and for the players as well. For some of us, it's the first time we play in this competition."
